Course Description

Ceramics I:

This 1 semester course will be primarily concerned with hand-built ceramic techniques. The designing of containers and free form sculpture will be emphasized. Students will also work on major sculptural forms in media such as clay, plaster, paper mache, wood, and assemblage. Instruction in the materials, techniques, equipment, vocabulary, and history of sculptural art is given. Emphasis is on skill development, craftsmanship, aesthetics, personal expression, and historical analysis. 

 

Ceramics II:

This 1 semester course will be more concerned with hand-built and wheel thrown ceramic techniques. The designing of advanced containers and free form sculpture will be emphasized. Students will continue to work on major sculptural forms in media such as clay, plaster, paper mache, wood, and assemblage. Instruction in the materials, techniques, equipment, vocabulary, and history of sculptural art is given. Emphasis and deeper understanding on skill development, craftsmanship, aesthetics, personal expression, and historical analysis. Course will be offered in conjunction with Ceramics 1 Pre requisite: Ceramics 1.
